چکیده

We measure X-ray emission from the outskirts of the cluster of galaxies PKS 0745-191 with Suzaku, determining radial profiles of density, temperature, entropy, gas fraction, and mass. These measurements extend beyond the virial radius for the first time, providing new information about cluster assembly and the diffuse intracluster medium out to ∼ 1.5r200 (r200 ≃ 1.7 Mpc ≃ 15). The temperature is found to decrease by roughly 60 per cent from 0.3−1r200. We also see a flattening of the entropy profile near the virial radius and consider the implications this has for the assumption of hydrostatic equilibrium when deriving mass estimates. We place these observations in the context of simulations and analytical models to develop a better understanding of non-gravitational physics in the outskirts of the cluster.

Integral field spectroscopy of ionized and molecular gas in cool cluster cores : evidence for cold feedback ? ⋆

We present VLT-SINFONI K-band integral field spectroscopy of the central galaxies in the cool core clusters A1664, A2204 and PKS 0745-191, to probe the spatio-kinematic properties of the Paα and ro-vibrational H 2 line emission. In A1664 the two emission-line velocity systems seen in our previous Hα spectroscopy appear in both Paα and H 2 emission, with notable morphological differences. The re...

A combined X - ray and gravitational lensing study of the massive cooling - flow cluster PKS 0745 - 191

We present spatially-resolved X-ray spectroscopy of the X-ray luminous cluster of galaxies, PKS0745-191, using observations made with the ASCA and ROSAT satellites. The X-ray data measure the density, temperature, and metallicity profiles of the cluster gas and constrain the distribution of mass in the cluster to a radius of 1:5 Mpc. We report the discovery of a bright gravitationally-lensed ar...

Spatially resolved spectroscopy of the cooling flow cluster PKS 0745-191 with BeppoSAX

We present results from a BeppoSAX observation of the cooling flow cluster PKS 0745−191 (z=0.1028). By performing spatially resolved spectroscopy, we find that the projected temperature profile is consistent with being constant. We can rule out, at more than the 99% confidence level, a temperature decrement of a factor 2 when going from the cluster core out to 1.2 Mpc. On the contrary, the proj...
